THE ART OF KNITTING

ULLEVILL

The name - Ullevill - is a play on the Norwegian words ull - wool - and vill - wild. I'm wild about wool; it's soft; stays warm even when wet; and is just really comfortable to wear.  Just about everything I make is either wool or a mix of wool and other natural fibres.

COURSES

Colourful knitting

Linen stitch and slip stitches can produce exciting colour effects and is really good for using up your stash of wool. You can use different weights and lots of different colours. You will learn some of the slip stitches, how to use colour to best effect, and get started on a project.

Brioche knitting

Brioche, known as patent knitting in Scandinavia, produces a very elastic fabric which is great for sweaters and scarves but can also be used to give new life to an old garment; make a new collar for an old sweater for instance. You will learn the brioche stitches, which sort of yarn is suitable, and look at things you can make.

Redesign

Do you have a garment which has seen better days but which, with a few tweaks, could still have lots of wear in it?

I can help you redesign and refashion items so that you can continue enjoying them.  Here are a couple of examples.  The v-neck sweater was originally fairly plain, apart from some cabling on the sleeves but was transformed with more cabling and some brioche thrown in for good measure.

The dress shrunk in the wash and needed some length added at the top. The crochet flowers provided both the length and some colour.
